Susan Brady, the editor of The World Is a Kitchen: Cooking Your Way Through Culture, is a woman with a passion for food. She has lived the life of a typical suburban soccer mom, complete with husband, three children, and two cats, while spending long hours in the kitchen testing recipes from around the world.

Having worked for a travel publisher for 16 years, she began visiting destinations through food, rather than by airplane. Learning about Thai curries, Spanish tapas, and Mexican moles kept her busy in the kitchen, and the envy of the neighborhood.

From this love of food came Eating Suburbia, a blog dedicated to helping people break out of the rut of meatloaf and roasted chicken, and spice up their kitchens with the recipes of the world. Taking her love of food farther afield, she has learned to travel on her stomach, whether it is to Erie, Pennsylvania or Taipei, Taiwan. Susan has spent 5 days tasting chocolate in Belgium, taken cooking classes in Thailand, and tried every Cajun/Creole dish she could while walking the streets of New Orleans.

So put away the canned vegetables, packaged cookies, and oversweet jams, and come dig into a new way of cooking and eating. Treat yourself and your family to something better, healthier. It may be a simple risotto or a more complex soup, but her goal in this column is to encourage and tantalize your tastebuds, while eating healthy at the same time.
