The skin is made of elastic fibers called collagen and elastin. As we age and stress our skin, the fibers stretch causing the relaxed appearance known as wrinkles. Wrinkles can be treated from the outside with creams and lotions and from the inside with nutrition and proper hydration. You can prevent wrinkles or reduce wrinkles with products found in nature.
Repair the skin from the inside out
To reduce wrinkles, it’s important to replenish the nutrients that make up the skin. To nourish the skin at night, use creams and moisturizers to rebuild your skin while you rest. During the day, skin needs to be protected from both sun and pollution.
- Vitamin A, E, and C are needed to keep skin healthy. Many skincare products contain these and other skin nourishing nutrients. Vitamin C and products containing vitamin C have been proven to reduce wrinkles. Vitamin C is important in the synthesis of collagen, and it is an antioxidant.
- Antioxidants prevent wrinkles by removing the free radicals in the blood that damage skin. Fruits and vegetables are good sources of anti-oxidants especially the dark colored ones, such as leafy greens, and berries.
- Vitamin CoQ10 promotes collagen production.
Nature’s wrinkle removers
- To hydrate, it is important to drink plenty of water. Skin plumps up when water is plentiful in the body. External applications will hold the water in the outer layers of the skin. Papaya, avocado, oatmeal, and even melons, can be used for this purpose, or utilize creams with these active ingredients.
- Buttermilk contains the same chemical used in chemical peels and anti-aging lotions, alpha-hydroxyacid (or AHA).1
- Oils such as coconut, olive oil, avocado oil and cocoa butter can be applied to the skin as a mask and a moisture barrier, preventing elimination of moisture from the skin. Almond oil and castor oil have both been used as face moisturizers since Biblical times. Omega 3 fatty acids are also good for the health of the skin.
- Lavender and witch hazel contain natural tannins to tighten the skin.
- Sliced cucumbers applied to the eye area reduce swelling and puffiness.
